Dundee Tidal Power Lagoon // Dundee
Dundee Tidal Power Lagoon is a multifunctional coastal infrastructure that generates renewable energy while promoting public engagement and climate resilience. Located between two bridges near the city centre and the V&A Dundee, the lagoon harnesses predictable tidal movements to produce clean power while protecting the coastline from rising sea levels.
Inspired by Dundee’s silhouette, the design includes a public green promenade, stepped decks that respond to tidal changes, and recreational areas that encourage interaction with the coastal environment. Together, these elements transform the lagoon into a dynamic public space—serving both as energy infrastructure and as a living gallery of tidal life.
At the heart of the project is a dedicated research centre situated directly on the lagoon, supporting ongoing studies in marine science, tidal energy, and climate adaptation. Constructed with massive stone walls, the centre not only references local material heritage but also creates wind-sheltered outdoor areas for public use.
The project exemplifies a just transition through inclusive, climate-responsive architecture.
