The Shifting Edge // Bo’ness, Scotland
In response to ecological damage and severe flood risks from industry and land reclamation, ‘the Shifting Edge’ proposes a radical realignment of the Forth’s coastline, restoring the 1850 shoreline to reinstate coastal habitats. Embedded within this restorative landscape, the proposition comprises a monitoring base, educational spaces, exhibitions and a processing wing for assembling locally grown construction products: reed cassettes.
Through a material-led approach and utilisation of locally grown materials while eliminating use of concrete, both the landscape and the architecture will sequester carbon. The site will adapt to rising sea levels while providing opportunities for local skill building, delivering regenerative construction materials to local economies and restoring habitats.
