The Electricity Club // Blackness, Dundee
The Electricity Club is positioned as a catalyst for the new food economy in Dundee City, Scotland. Drawing close attention to lessons learned from the energy sector, The Electricity Club is part of a wider counter-revolution advocating for fairness and balance. It foregrounds the interconnectedness of our food systems, which are currently in disrepair.
A series of sensitive interventions on a historic Jute Mill site house a shared kitchen, a community food larder, a seasonal restaurant, and accompanying future foods production facilities. These facilities disrupt the chain of extractive and globalized food supply networks.
The project highlights innovations in regional and regenerative food practices, celebrating culture and locality within integrated food ecologies in the heart of Blackness.
As shifting consumer trends shape transformations in food growing, consumption, and disposal, The Electricity Club is situated to support growth in the region. It ensures a careful balance of socio-cultural issues and technological challenges, embedded within its specific context and place.
